The new and long awaited Labyrinth album could not disappoint the expectations due to a band that made the history of Italian metal and that will continue to do so also through Welcome to the Absurd Circus, a sensational album that takes up the discourse interrupted with Architecture of a God of 2017 and who gives us an inspired and in great shape line-up, in which Roberto still pulls off a great demonstration as only the best ones can do, where Olaf and Andrea weave cobwebs in notes capable of giving intense emotions, where Oleg has the great merit of giving and embellishing the atmospheres without forgetting the rhythm section formed by Nick on the bass and by the newly member Matt Peruzzi on drums, that works like a perfect machine.
The "absurd circus" intended as the world that surrounds and envelops us nowadays begins with the first THE ABSURD CIRCUS, a real Labyrinth-style piece, in which all the musicians can express their immense class. Refrain, guitar solos, keyboards, vocals and final acute are of great impact. LIVE TODAY is a profound Power ride where a very precise rhythm section guides the sound barrier and Olaf's incendiary guitar, always at the top, takes no prisoners. More cadenced rhythm for the following ONE MORE LAST CHANCE, where voice and guitar introduce a screaming refrain, but it is Tiranti's ordeal to be impressive together with excellent guitar solos in the final part. AS LONG AS IT LASTS follows the rhythm of the previous one, at times it seems to be almost recited such is the pathos it arouses; the instruments appear to support the singer's infinite class and Oleg's keyboard solo in the final part is to be transmitted to posterity. DEN OF SNAKES takes us back to more Speed shores; intense melodies introduce a refrain that remains sculpted from the first listening. Those seconds with the spoken part, with reference to the role of social media, are also very suggestive, while the guitar solo is fantastic once more.
A more Rock n 'Roll mood for WORD'S MINEFIELD, but even here you can incredibly see that you cannot buy class, in the final part the sound is strengthened to close with a really inspired refrain. In THE UNEXPECTED the Speed / Power returns predominant and the battlefield is very well known by our people who unleash an even more important test, while the choice of DANCING WITH TEARS IN MY EYES, Ultravox’s cover, through the sound of Labyrinth renders beautifully. SLEEPWALKER is a very varied piece, Oleg's intro, the guitar mid-tempo, as well as a bass in the foreground, support Roberto's voice on different rhythms and tones in an excellent way. The ballad A REASON TO SURVIVE is like a pearl and excites already at the first listen anticipating the final FINALLY FREE which through a robust mood and closer to Power and classic metal, releases all the energy that these six guys are able to trigger. Exciting solos and arpeggios take us towards the end of the work which must be considered as a confirmation of how fundamental Labyrinth are for the Italian Metal and beyond.
Welcome to the Absurd Circus is ultimately a worthy representative of the highest peaks of the band's discography and we hope will be performed live as soon as possible. Heroes!
