Glare of Deliverance, the latest album by the Italian Genus Ordinis Dei, must be considered as a 360-degree work as the musical impact on disc is inseparable from the visual impact generated by the first miniseries of metal videos that summarizes the fascinating history of Eleonor, a woman accused of witchcraft and therefore kidnapped, interrogated, tortured, exorcised, and burned at the stake. A project that in my memory has no equal in the field of music that we all love, and which makes us proud to have a band of such level in our country. The sound proposed by Genus Ordinis Dei is an inspired modern and avant-garde Symphonic / Epic / Black / Death Metal with an excellent production.
Immediately suggestive the instrumental and symphonic opener RITUAL in which Eleonor exercises the rite surrounded by wonderful nature that serves as an introduction to the subsequent HUNT, musically very aggressive thanks to a growl vocals alternating with scream and almost clean moments that stages Eleonor's kidnapping. Soon after there are the more Epic interludes, really dizzying. EDICT in its initial part has a celestial symphonic mood immediately broken by powerful guitars and Nick K's voice which perfectly conveys the idea of the alleged witch entering the place where she will be interrogated. Worth mentioning is the effect given by splendid Black metal riffs interrupted by more pounding and melodic rhythms. EXAMINATION has a full, powerful sound, in which even the parts spoken in Italian are appropriate, the more heavy rhythm makes the idea of the oppressive evolving of interrogation; a piece worth of great applause like the following TORTURE, that fully represents the cruelty of torture inflicted even through moments that are not exactly extreme from a musical point of view (this is also a merit) that fit perfectly with other more Speed, gives gooseflesh the forced confession by Eleonor, still entirely in Italian. JUDGEMENT has an Epic gait that perfectly embodies the moment of judgment by a ruthless inquisitor and that soon turns into a Death metal surrounded by appreciable melodies that in video render the mood of Eleonor and the pathos towards waiting for the final verdict. DREAM represents Eleonor's dream of freedom in which an initial guitar arpeggio creates an atmosphere full of suspense followed by almost Core moments that say it all about the modernity of the band’s sound, experts of all the faces of current extreme music; refrains still pompous, captivating, and proud attract our attention.
Ecclesiastical chants mark the beginning of ABJURATION track in which is told the abjuration phase, a practice in which the condemned person denies belonging to the previous creed, a slow gait of guitar and keyboard opens the doors to an evocative sound that explodes first in a metal riff of great impact and then in a growl still masterfully performed surrounded by masterful choirs that distinguish the whole song. EXORCISM through a sound that is almost Core in the initial part takes up the melody of the initial ritual which, with the addition of the growl singing, explodes into an inspired black metal in a final amazing part.
FIRE is the final 16 minutes suite that closes the work, in it there is all Genus Ordinis Dei’s sound that now seems to contain all the most extreme metal tones forged in an Epic metal in a way that frankly up to today I have not seen in any other band. The song tells of Eleonor's sentence to the stake; to be transmitted to posterity the splendid guitar arpeggio that still traces the opening notes of Ritual and the subsequent quasi-Prog metal attack with great band refrain.
Glare of Deliverance is an album not to be missed, to be admired and enjoyed in symbiosis with the short films that at the time of our review have only reached the sixth chapter out of ten and that make this work unique in its kind. Proud to have a band of this skill in Italy, we are waiting for you live!

Glare of Deliverance, nuovo album degli italianissimi Genus Ordinis Dei, deve essere considerato come un’opera a 360 gradi in quanto risulta inscindibile l’impatto musicale su disco da quello visivo generato dalla prima miniserie in video prettamente metal che riassume l’affascinante storia di Eleonor, donna accusata di stregoneria e per questo rapita, interrogata, torturata, esorcizzata e data al rogo. Un progetto che a mia memoria non ha eguali nell’ambito della musica che tutti noi amiamo e che rende orgogliosi di avere nel nostro paese una band di tale caratura. Il sound proposto dai Genus Ordinis Dei è un ispirato Symphonic/Epic/Black/Death Metal moderno e all’avanguardia con una produzione eccelsa.
Suggestiva l’opener strumentale e sinfonica RITUAL in cui Eleonor esercita il rito circondata da una natura meravigliosa che funge da introduzione alla successiva HUNT, musicalmente molto aggressiva anche grazie un cantato growl alternato a momenti scream ed altri quasi clean che inscena il rapimento di Eleonor. Non mancano poi gli intermezzi più Epic, da capogiro. EDICT nella sua parte iniziale ha un mood da sinfonia celestiale subito spezzato da poderose chitarre e dal cantato di Nick K che rende perfettamente l’idea dell’ingresso della presunta strega nel luogo in cui sarà interrogata. Da menzionare l’effetto dato da splendidi riff Black metal interrotti da ritmi più cadenzati e melodici. EXAMINATION ha un sound pieno, poderoso in cui risultano azzeccati anche i frangenti parlati in lingua italiana, il ritmo più metal rende l’idea dell’incedere opprimente dell’interrogatorio; un pezzo da applausi a scena aperta come del resto TORTURE che rappresenta in pieno la crudeltà della tortura inflitta anche attraverso momenti non proprio estremi dal punto di vista musicale (anche questo è un merito) che si incastrano perfettamente con altri più Speed, da pelle d’oca la confessione forzata, ancora tutta in italiano, di Eleonor. JUDGEMENT ha un incedere epico che incarna perfettamente il momento del giudizio da parte di un inquisitore spietato e che presto si trasforma in un Death metal contornato da melodie apprezzabilissime che in video rendono lo stato d’animo di Eleonor ed il pathos verso l’attesa per il verdetto finale. DREAM rappresenta il sogno di libertà di Eleonor in cui un arpeggio di chitarra iniziale crea un’atmosfera ricca di suspence seguita da momenti quasi Core che la dicono tutta sulla modernità del suono dei nostri, conoscitori di tutte le sfaccettature della musica estrema attuale; ancora refrain pomposi, accattivanti e superbi attirano la nostra attenzione.
Canti ecclesiastici danno inizio ad ABJURATION traccia in cui viene raccontata la fase dell’Abiura, pratica in cui il condannato rinnega l’appartenenza al precedente credo, un incedere lento di chitarra e tastiera apre le porte ad un sound evocativo che esplode prima in un riff metal di impatto e poi in un growl ancora magistralmente eseguito contornato da importanti cori che contraddistinguono tutta la canzone. EXORCISM attraverso un sound ancora quasi core nella parte iniziale riprende la melodia dell’iniziale ritual che con aggiunta del cantato growl esplode in un ispirato black metal in una parte finale da paura.
FIRE è la suite finale di 16 minuti con cui si chiude il lavoro, in essa c’è tutto il sound dei Genus Ordinis Dei che ormai sembra racchiudere tutte le sonorità metal più estreme forgiate in un Epic metal in una maniera tale che francamente fino ad oggi non ho visto in nessun’altra band. Il brano racconta la condanna al rogo di Eleonor; da tramandare ai posteri l’arpeggio di chitarra splendido che ripercorre ancora le note iniziali di Ritual ed il successivo attacco quasi-Prog metal con refrain da grandissima band.
Glare of Deliverance è un disco da non lasciarsi sfuggire, da ammirare e da godersi in simbiosi con i cortometraggi che al momento della nostra recensione sono giunti solo al sesto capitolo di dieci e che rendono questa opera unica nel suo genere. Fieri di avere una band di questo calibro in Italia, vi attendiamo dal vivo!
