A title in Occitan language, really difficult for us to pronounce, extracted from the Apocalypse of John, referring to those who will not have the right to final salvation, and which translates as "... nor those who abominate and lie ...", marks the magnificent debut of the Swedish black metallers Escumergamënt, an entity born a few years ago from the union of members from other bands of the Scandinavian black scene such as Setherial, Stilla, Svederna and Bergraven. The album was recorded in a few days practically live in a small farmhouse and is characterized by a Black Metal of the origins without frills and capable of striking from the first listen despite the long duration of some pieces.
The opener OF OLD NIGHT AND WINTER immediately shows the cards that band wants to use, that is to aim first of all at tradition but with an out-of-the-ordinary inspiration that makes the proposed ancestral Black of immediate impact, in which we want to point out the melodies that blend within the piece in a truly engaging sound. TO ENVY THE CORPSES has an initially more "speed" mood which subsequently becomes more rhythmic, you can hear the recording almost live but of extremely high quality and everything is extremely suggestive. In ANTEDILUVIUM the black flame flares up in a slow and almost obsessive rhythm, where I feel I can applaud the singing that carries away, almost as an hypnotic chant, as indeed in the subsequent I SANG OF MURDER, from headbanging the central part in which the proposed Black Metal takes the same characteristics of those tracks written by the founding fathers… shivering. THE GRIEVOUS MIRACLE returns to a slower but impactful sound, there is, however, no lack of accelerations in the central part and background melodies which, by merging, build an occult sound capable of transcending.
The final BLACK ASH AND RUIN, about 9 minutes long, contains, as in a summa, all that we have previously described, confirming the goodness of the Escumergamënt project which we sincerely hope will have a following over the next few years so much is the charge, atmosphere and extreme dark emotions transmitted. Black jewel!

Un titolo in lingua occitana, per noi impronunciabile, estratto dall’Apocalisse di Giovanni, riferito a chi non avrà diritto alla salvezza finale e che si traduce con “…né chi opera abominio e menzogna…”, segna il magnifico esordio dei black metaller svedesi Escumergamënt, entità nata qualche anno fa dall’unione di membri provenienti da altre band della scena black scandinava quali Setherial, Stilla, Svederna e Bergraven. L’album è stato registrato in pochi giorni praticamente dal vivo in un piccolo casolare e si contraddistingue per un Black Metal delle origini senza fronzoli e capace di colpire sin dal primo ascolto nonostante la lunga durata di alcuni pezzi.
L’opener OF OLD NIGHT AND WINTER mette in mostra sin da subito le carte che la band vuole usare, ovvero puntare prima di tutto alla tradizione ma con un’ispirazione fuori dal comune che rende il Black ancestrale proposto di immediato impatto, in cui sono da segnalare le melodie che si fondono all’interno del pezzo in un sound veramente coinvolgente. TO ENVY THE CORPSES ha un mood inizialmente più “speed” che successivamente diventa più cadenzato, si sente la registrazione quasi dal vivo ma di elevatissima qualità ed il tutto è estremamente suggestivo. In ANTEDILUVIUM divampa la fiamma nera in un ritmo lentissimo e quasi ossessivo, dove mi sento di elogiare il cantato che trasporta via, quasi da ipnosi come del resto nella successiva I SANG OF MURDER, da headbanging la parte centrale in cui il Black Metal proposto assume gli stessi connotati di quello scritto dai grandi padri fondatori… da brividi. THE GRIEVOUS MIRACLE torna su un sound più lento ma di impatto, non mancano tuttavia accelerazioni nella parte centrale e melodie di sottofondo che, fondendosi, costruiscono un suono occulto in grado di far trascendere.
La conclusiva BLACK ASH AND RUIN di circa 9 minuti racchiude come in una summa tutto quello che abbiamo raccontato in precedenza confermando la bontà del progetto Escumergamënt che speriamo vivamente abbia un seguito nel corso dei prossimi anni tanta è la carica, atmosfera ed emozione oscurissima trasmessa. Gioiello nero!
