This debut album by the Sicilian band Gothic Stone it’s like a gem hidden among the years, born from a casual encounter between Salvatore Fallucca (band’s mastermind) and Black Widow Records, label from Genova, that discovers this precious material among old registrations and decides to bring it to the light it deserves.
Band’s line-up led by Salvatore Fallucca (rhythm guitar) sees also Vincenzo Mandarano (lead guitar), Rodan Di Maria (Bass), Salvo Sicilia (Drums) and it is completed by the precious and amazing voice of Gabriele “Nightcomer” Grilli (icon of Italian doom metal, former vocalist of Doomsword).
The LP opens with DIES IRAE, a real manifesto of gothic Stone’s sound, starting with a pounding rhythm that grows faster in the mind of the listener opening a dreamlike dimension where guitar solos, medieval choirs and organ melodies are weaved together in a divine suite.
CAERERIS MUNDUS (THE NECROMANCER) reveals the high performance of Gabriele Grilli, the mid-tempo enhances his vocal and evocative qualities. The piece is a perfect balance of doom and heavy arrangements that are inflamed by the perfection of the technical skills of the whole band.
TIME LORD it is an instrumental suite that serves as intro to THE OATH OF THE GOTHIC STONE, first single for Gothic Stone. This time the mix between primordial doom and heavy metal is bolstered by folk melodies, resulting in an incredibly various and emotional song, impossible to forget since the first listening session.
Next track throws us in the sulfurous and evocative luciferin fall of Gothic Stone with LUCIFERIAN DAWN where the contribution of special guest Sirio Noto (mastermind of Hellraiders band also from Palermo) is particularly noticeable in the bass lines. Resulting doom metal is heavily grievous and it does not give any change to escape.
Last song of the album is SIDEREUS NUNCIUS, that represents a summary of the melodies, darkness, skills, and every other emotion played and felt on the whole album, leaving with an unrelenting desire of more of that.
First 40 minutes of Gothic Stone’s debut album are really flying away in an instant, showing an uncommon liveliness and style that we really hope shall be proposed again soon.
Black Widow Records hit the marks again with this production. The instinct and technical skills of the insiders have given us a gigantic work that risked never being published otherwise.

Il debut album dei siciliani Gothic Stone è come una gemma nascosta negli anni, tutto nasce da un incontro casuale tra Salvatore Fallucca (mastermind della band) e l’etichetta genovese Black Widow che intravede in delle antiche registrazioni di molti anni prima un prezioso materiale da riportare alla luce meritata.
La line up della band composta da Salvatore Fallucca (rhythm guitar), Vincenzo Mandarano (lead guitar), Rodan Di Maria (Bass) e di Salvo Sicilia (Drums) viene completata dalla preziosa presenza alla voce di Gabriele “Nightcomer” Grilli (icona del doom italico ed ex “Doomsword”).
L’LP parte con DIES IRAE vero e proprio manifesto del sound della band, ritmo prima cadenzato e poi più veloce che incalza nella mente dell’ascoltatore aprendo una dimensione quasi onirica dove assoli di chitarra, cori medievali e organi si intrecciano in un’unica sublime suite.
In “Caereris Mundus (The Necromancer)” la performance del Vocalist Gabriele Grilli sale in cattedra, il mid tempo della traccia esalta le sue qualità canore ed evocative. Il tutto si muove tra sonorità doom ed heavy metal che vengono esaltate dalla cristallinea classe della band.
TIME LORD è una suite interamente strumentale che funge da intro a THE OATH OF THE GOTHIC STONE primo singolo dei Gothic. Questa volta nell’intreccio tra doom primordiale, heavy metal viene inserito anche il folk ed il risultato è da capogiro. La melodia già al primo ascolto risulta quasi impossibile da dimenticare.
Nella traccia successiva veniamo catapultati nella sulfurea ed evocativa caduta luciferina dei Gothic Stone (LUCIFERIAN DAWN) dove notiamo anche l’importante contributo dell'ospite speciale Sirio Noto al basso (mente dei Palermitani Hellraiders). Il doom metal proposto risulta essere oppressivo e buio e non sembra mostrare alcuna via d’uscita.
Il disco si chiude con SIDEREUS NUNCIUS pezzo che riassume quanto proposto nel resto dell’LP in un’unica traccia ma la voglia di sentire altro è ancora tanta.
I 40 minuti del primo lavoro dei Gothic Stone volano via in fretta mostrando una verve e classe che speriamo vengano riproposte in tempi non lunghissimi.
Ancora una volta la Black Widow records ha colpito nel segno. L’istinto e la competenza degli addetti ai lavori ci ha regalato un disco immenso che rischiava di non vedere mai la luce.
